  • It's time to announce the Worst Commercial of 2002!

    CARROT TOP!!!!!!


    I guess it just goes to show that you CAN get enough of him, and that this is one ad campaign that has overstayed its welcome (by about two years). By the way, Pier 1 came in second and Old Navy was third. Thanks to all who voted on and offline.


    In a related story, the Dell guy (who got the prize for Worst Commercial of 2001, if you'll recall), was arrested today on charges of marijuana possession. I guess we all know what to say to that: "Dude! You're goin' to jail!" Okay, okay, you can stop groaning now...


    Academy Award nominations are coming up in the next 24 hours. I'm sure I'll have something to say about it. I was satisfied with last year's nominees and winnners (It was the first time I liked 3 of the Best Picture nominees: A Beautiful Mind, Lord of the Rings, and Moulin Rouge), except for in the Best Visual Effects, Sound Effects Editing, and Original Song. I was especially disappointed with the Best Original Song category. First of all, Paul McCartney, shame on you. I expected better. Second, although I am glad that Randy Newman finally won an Oscar after 16 nominations, "May It Be" was a much better song, and there were several VERY good songs that weren't even nominated, like "Come What May" from Moulin Rouge, "All Love Can Be" from A Beautiful Mind, "The Dream Within" from Final Fantasy, and "For Always" from AI. Those last two would've been real interesting, since "The Dream Within" and half of "For Always" is sung by the same person. There you go. Smooth transition AND you save money by having one less $30,000 gift bag (and yes, they really do cost that much). What I'm gonna miss most about this year is that Whoopi Goldberg isn't hosting this year. I liked her the best of the hosts I remember in my lifetime. I wasn't a huge fan of Billy Crystal, but he was better than Steve Martin, who's hosting this year. Oh well, at least it's NOT David Letterman...
