You’re probably wondering what happened to me, yet again. Believe it or not, I DID run the final ballot for the Worst Commercial of 2006, but apparently I only ran it on Myspace and I forgot to run it here (Either that, or it somehow deleted itself). Since it’s way too late to run it again (plus, I don’t want the poll to run through when I should be doing Oscar Picks), I’ll just go on the results from Myspace and let you know that the Worst Commercial of 2006 was Arby’s, for making an ad campaign even worse than the loathed Oven Mitt. You’ve all seen those “I’m thinkin’ Arby’s” commercials, where the person (almost always a guy…I can’t think of any featuring a woman) does a crappy job at whatever they’re supposed to be doing because they’re “thinkin’ Arby’s” and they have the Arby’s cowboy hat logo floating over their head. Examples (and it’s pretty obvious which character is “thinkin’ Arby’s”): A cop stops by a house and mistakes the cartoon-type burglars for the homeowners, even though the real homeowner is tied to a chair right in front of the door; A woman comes home to discover her husband has wallpapered the cat into the wall (I will give Arby’s the benefit of the doubt here and assume the cat escapes unharmed, seeing as how the cat was strong enough to whip its tail around and act pissed); and (IMHO) the worst of all: A florist delivers funeral wreaths to a woman in her office, and birthday flowers and decorations to the funeral home. So that’s it for 2006, and join us again for 2007 (and hopefully I’ll have my crap together this time). In the meantime, it’ll soon be time for my other big feature of the year: Oscar Picks!!! Academy Award nominations will be announced tomorrow, and once again, I’ll be presenting you with my take and picks, as well as the picks of some friends of mine. Naturally, I won’t be able to start right away tomorrow, as it’ll probably take me a week or so to get everyone’s picks situated (If you’d like to participate, please let me know ASAP). One more thing: I’m seeing Phantom of the Opera (stage version) this Saturday. It’ll be awesome.
