Month: June 2003

  • Since I got an improved response last week, it is time once again for Hump Day Trivia!!! I keep getting complaints that the questions are either too easy or too hard, so I’ve decided to change the format a little, and I’ll see if it works this week. I’ll give five questions in each of three difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, and Hard). Each question is worth a set point value. Your goal is to use any combination of questions to get to ten points. I’ll declare the person with the most points the winner. If more than one person gets 10 points, I’ll go with the person who uses the “hardest” combination (So try to answer the Hard questions). Hopefully, you’re not confused by now. Today’s theme is History. Good luck!

    Easy (1 Point Each)

    1. What led to the sinking of the Titanic in 1912?

    2. What French statesman crowned himself emperor in 1804?

    3. Which American president became famous for abolishing slavery?

    4. What was discovered in California in 1848?

    5. What was the Japanese warrior class that rose to power in the 11th century?

    Medium (2 Points Each)

    1. Who was the last czar of Russia?

    2. What was the purpose of the Crusades?

    3. Which important British document was issued in the year 1215?

    4. What did Martin Luther post on the church door at Wittenberg?

    5. In which year did William the Conqueror invade England?

    Hard (3 Points Each)

    1. To which Native American tribe did Geronimo belong?

    2. Which notable building was started by the Emperor Vespasian and finished by his son Domitian?

    3. Which French premier was known as “The Tiger?”

    4. Name the stone upon which all British monarchs are crowned.

    5. What was Tokyo formerly called?

Oh, don’t forget to take my quiz and Chris’s quiz on Quizilla…

  • Okay, I got a better turnout this time, so I’ll continue with “Hump Day Trivia”-for now. Once again, Marisa is the winner with 4 correct answers (Chris and Nance1 both had three). Here are the answers:

    1.      The Lone Gunmen (Chris, you’re thinking of Millennium, which wasn’t a spinoff, though Frank Black did show up on an X-Files episode once).

    3.      She’s Sebacean

    4.      The Tracey Ullman Show

    5.      The Church Lady, played by Dana Carvey

It just seems to be my week to discover opportunities that I’m going to miss. First I discovered that there was going to be a charity performance of the musical Chess in New York in September, which happens to star three performers that I like (One wouldn’t matter much, but missing three in the same show is kinda disappointing). All I can do is hope they make a recording and release it for sale, because that musical has some nice songs. Just when I was almost through with that, I got even worse news from the Styx website. Back in March, they were in Toledo when I was not (four days before I was due home, I might add). I’m still as little steamed about that. However, just to add insult to injury, guess where they’re going to be on June 23rd? Yep, Columbus. Arghh. WHY can’t I get synced with these guys? They seem to be wherever I am not. They are going to be in Detroit and in Grand Rapids this month, but it’s too late to get tickets. So far, this summer, Toledo’s getting Chicago (which I’m going to miss out on), Hootie and the Blowfish, Huey Lewis, Pat Benatar, Weird Al Yankovic (Which I’m also going to miss), Cher, and Poison (which I’m considering, since I missed out on Journey last year). I know this sounds bad (not to mention cheesy), but I’m in dire need of a Styx fix.

All right, Chris and I both created quizzes on Quizilla. Chris’s, which appears below, is the one on how well you know James Bond (I think I unknowingly donated a question). The link to mine is here: What Broadway Musical Are You?

    Here are some quiz results:
